How Steward Market Works
A clear, consent-based approach to ownership transitions designed around values, timing, and fit.

How It Works
Steward Market helps founders, buyers, and partners connect through shared context and mutual consent. Sellers create a listing that includes the fundamentals, plus values, priorities, and what a good transition looks like. Buyers and partners build profiles that explain their approach to ownership and how they show up.
From there, filters and badges help everyone self-select based on fit, not guesswork. Conversations and introductions only begin when interest is mutual, so time is spent where engagement is welcome and productive.

What’s Masked (and Why)
Company names, identifying details, and contact information may be masked until there is mutual interest. This protects founders, prevents unwanted outreach, and keeps conversations intentional.
You control when you’re visible and when you engage. Masking isn’t about secrecy. It’s about consent.
Verification & Badges
Filters and badges help you understand what matters to founders and buyers before stepping in.

Impact Exit
This listing opts in to donate 1-2% of transaction value or fees to the Steward Impact Fund, supporting the next generation of mission-driven entrepreneurs.

Certified B Corp
Verified commitment to balancing profit with purpose, accountability, and transparency.

Employee Ownership Friendly
Open to ownership paths like ESOPs, EOTs, co-ops, or other shared-ownership approaches.

Mission-Aligned Capital
Capital partners who explicitly integrate stewardship and long-term impact into their investment approach.
Connection Workflow

Interest is expressed
One party signals interest after reviewing the profile, values, and context.
Interest is accepted
The other party chooses whether to engage. No response is required.
Conversation begins by choice
When interest is mutual, a conversation opens. There is no obligation to continue.
Pause or walk away anytime
You can explore, decline, or step back at any point. Control stays with you.

NDA & Messaging
Steward Market supports introductions and early-stage messaging only. We don’t collect, store, or manage NDAs or deal documents.
If both parties want to move forward, you’re free to exchange NDAs and take the conversation off-platform when you choose. Messaging is simply a first step to decide whether to talk. What happens next is up to you.

What Happens Post-Close
When a transaction closes, users can choose to mark that milestone in their dashboard.
This may include:
- Sellers noting a completed sale
- Buyers noting a completed acquisition
- Service providers or capital partners marking a supported transaction
At that moment, users may be invited to optionally support the Steward Impact Fund, helping pay stewardship forward to the next generation of mission-driven entrepreneurs.
Participation is always voluntary.
This is about stewardship beyond a single deal.

Keeping the Marketplace Healthy (Disputes)
Ownership transitions are complex, and sometimes conversations stall or expectations don’t align. Steward Market isn’t an arbitrator or enforcer, but we do maintain clear participation standards to protect the integrity of the ecosystem.
Accounts may be restricted or removed in cases of:
- Misrepresentation
- Harassment or coercive behavior
- Unauthorized solicitation
- Repeated violation of platform norms
This helps keep the marketplace safer and more trustworthy space for everyone involved.
